Our national defective drug lawyers are investigating a number of potential gynecomastia lawsuits on behalf of men and boys who have developed the condition after being treated with a range of medications. If you believe that a medication led to the development of your gynecomastia, contact us to find out if you qualify for financial compensation.
What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by the swelling of breast tissue in boys or men. The condition can affect one or both breasts and may cause pain. While the condition is not life-threatening, it can lead to a number of emotional and psychological problems caused by appearance and self-image, especially for young boys.
Symptoms of gynecomastia include:
- Tenderness in one or both breasts
- Swelling of breast gland tissue
- Discharge from the nipple
You should see a doctor if you are experiencing any of these symptoms. In some cases, gynecomastia will go away on its own; but, in other cases, the patient may require surgery. Sometimes doctors may evaluate young boys with the condition every three to six months to see if it will go away on its own. But, if it is causing pain, tenderness or emotional problems, treatment may be necessary.
Treatment can sometimes involve taking medications or surgery. There are two surgical procedures that are used to treat gynecomastia:
- Mastectomy: Breast gland tissue is removed via small incisions.
- Liposuction: Fat is removed from the breast, but the breast gland tissue remains.
Gynecomastia Caused by Medications
The swelling of breast tissue in males can be embarrassing and lead to teasing and harassment, especially for boys and young men. Sometimes, the cause of the condition cannot be identified or is linked to something unpreventable. But, there are several prescription and over-the-counter medications that have been found to increase the risk for the development of this condition.
Flood Law Group has taken a special interest in cases of gynecomastia that are linked to prescription and over-the-counter medications. We recognize the emotional toll this condition can have on our male clients and are actively pursuing compensation for those affected by this condition.
