In 2014, many thousands of corn farmers in the United States and across the world suffered tremendous financial losses when China rejected exported corn which may have been contaminated with genetically modified corn seeds produced by the Swiss company Syngenta. Now, corn farmers and other individuals affected by Syngenta GMO corn have the option to file a personal injury lawsuit in pursuit of compensation for their damages.
The Story on Syngenta Corn
In 2009, Syngenta developed a new strain of corn seed which is insect-resistant known as Agrisure Viptera (MIR162). This corn, known as a GMO (genetically modified organism), was introduced in the United States in 2011, but was not cleared for use in other countries. One country that did not approve the use of Syngenta GMO corn was China, who accounted for a large portion of American farmers' export corn income. Beginning in 2013, China began to reject shipments of corn from the United States on grounds that they may contain or may have been contaminated with Syngenta Viptera corn. Now, American farmers have lost an estimated $1-$3 billion in income.
Syngenta Corn Lawsuit Information
Thousands of American farmers have suffered devastating financial losses as a result of Syngenta's reckless marketing of Viptera corn seed. In Syngenta corn lawsuits now spreading across 11 states, these farmers claim that Syngenta selfishly valued their own profit over the best interests of our farmers when they failed to obtain China's approval for their genetically modified corn, thus jeopardizing a huge portion of the American corn export market. Furthermore, plaintiffs claim that Syngenta also should have taken steps to ensure American farmers had a way to prevent cross-pollination of other corn breeds with Syngenta corn, thus contaminating even more crops. In fact, some experts estimate that U.S. corn exports have been reduced by a staggering 85% due to China's refusal to use Syngenta corn or any corn which may have been cross-pollinated with GMO corn.
