Dangerous Drugs
Xarelto, an oral anticoagulant medication used to prevent stroke and blood clots in patients with atrial fibrillation, has been linked to serious, sometimes fatal internal bleeding events. If you or someone you love has suffered severe bleeding while taking Xarelto, you may be eligible for financial compensation. To learn more, please call the national drug lawyers at Flood Law Group LLP. We have vast experience in claims involving drug side effects and can help you seek and recover the compensation you need and deserve.
Xarelto and Internal Bleeding
As with all anticoagulant medications, Xarelto has been known to provoke internal bleeding; in fact, since it became available in the U.S., numerous reports of severe bleeding have been reported by patients. The following situations are considered high risk for bleeding and may increase the chances of severe Xarelto bleeding events:
- Renal failure
- Advanced age
- Extremes in body weight
Patients taking any of the following medications while taking Xarelto may increase their risk for bleeding:
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs)
- Aspirin or aspirin-containing medications
- Warfarin sodium
- Drugs containing heparin
- Plavix
- Other medications used to treat blood clots
Are You Taking Xarelto?
If you are currently taking Xarelto, you should familiarize yourself with the potential risks and should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms:
- Frequent nose bleeds
- Unusual bleeding from the gums
- Unusually heavy menstrual bleeding
- Any bleeding that is severe or difficult to stop
- Red, pink or brown-colored urine
- Tar-like stool
- Vomiting blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
- Headaches, weakness or dizziness
- Pain or swelling of wounds
Are You Considering Taking Xarelto?
If your doctor recommends Xarelto for the prevention of blood clots or stroke, you should discuss your complete medical history before starting. Be sure to tell your doctor if you:
- Have a history of bleeding problems
- Have a history of kidney problems
- Have a history of liver problems
- Have any medical conditions
- Are pregnant or are considering getting pregnant
- Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
You should also give your doctor a complete list of all medications you are currently taking as some medications can have negative interactions with Xarelto.
Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuits
Xarelto poses the risk of dangerous, uncontrolled bleeding events in some patients. Lawsuits have been filed on behalf of patients who have suffered severe internal bleeding as well as on behalf of families whose loved ones have died as a result of severe bleeding. Plaintiffs in these lawsuits accuse Bayer and Janssen of failing to properly test the medication's safety before releasing it to the market and concealing the risk of uncontrolled bleeding.
If you or someone you love has suffered from one of the following side effects while taking Xarelto, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit that would allow you to pursue financial compensation:
- Intestinal bleeding
- Rectal bleeding
- Brain hemorrhaging
- Death from uncontrolled bleeding
