Xolair Lawyers

The FDA recently issued a warning about potentially fatal side effects linked to the asthma drug Xolair. If you or someone you love has suffered a stroke, heart attack, or similar serious cardiovascular or cerebrovascular issue which you believe may be a side effect of Xolair, you could be entitled to compensation for your damages.

Serious Xolair Side Effects

Xolair (omalizumab) was approved by the FDA in 2003 to treat individuals who suffer from severe allergic asthma, and was later granted approval as a treatment for chronic hives. In 2009, the FDA launched an investigation into possible cardiovascular and cerebrovascular side effects from Xolair. After a five-year study, the FDA announced in September 2014 that Xolair could cause serious issues in blood vessels in the heart and brain, possibly leading to the following threats:

  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Irregular heart rhythm
  • Chest pain
  • Pulmonary hypertension
  • Blood clots (venous thrombosis)
  • Blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism)

With this safety alert, the FDA added warnings about possible Xolair stroke, heart attack, and related issues to a "black box" warning that already existed on Xolair's label. However, given the severity of possible Xolair side effects, some question whether this drug should be prescribed to many patients and have even raised the possibility of a Xolair recall.
